One of the best vacations I ever took was to St. Pierre et Miquelon. We drove from New York north toward the Canadian maritime provinces, got on several boats, and wound up on two remote French islands just south or Newfoundland. The two islands were St. Pierre and Miquelon, parts of France. (The croissants at breakfast were AMAZING!)
The French Overseas Department issued 1 franc and 2 francs coins for St. Pierre et Miquelon in 1948. They are made of aluminum. Since they are modern coins made of non-precious metal, their value is low. But since they come from a rather unusual place, their value is not too low. Here are some approximate catalog values. Both 1 franc and 2 francs denominations carry the same collector value, as follows:
1 FRANC AND 2 FRANCS
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $6
fully uncirculated: $15
Use our Important Terminology page to convert these catalog values to actual buy and sell values.
