The coin in our main image is a 1720 UK shilling with King George (Georgivs) the first. These old coins of George I display minor variations in pattern and inscription that can affect value quite a bit. If you have a nice looking example, with no problems such as cleaning, scratches, stains, or spots, it is best to check with a knowledgeable collector or coin dealer for an in-person appraisal. CoinQuest can give only VERY APPROXIMATE guidance to value of these old beauties.
CoinQuest thanks Stack's Bowers for use of their coin photo.
You can see in our secondary pictures that the reverse side comes in several major varieties, those with interlocked Cs and plumes and those with SS C. There is another variety (not shown) with rosettes and plumes. The coin in our main picture is plain, it has no devices between the crowned coats-of-arm.
We will attempt to give VERY APPROXIMATE guidance on the values of these coins. The first job is to determine denomination:
SHILLING: 26 mm diameter
1/2 CROWN: 33 mm diameter
CROWN: 39 mm diameter
and the second job it to determine the type of reverse design.
