Oman (Muscat) 1/4 Anna 1893 to 1897

Oman, on the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula, was called Muscat and Oman until 1970. You can use the table of eastern Arabic numerals to read the date, and you can use Islamicity.com to convert the Islamic date to a Gregorian one. Faisal bin Turkee was the ruler from AH1306 to AH1332 (1888 to 1913AD). The coin in our picture is dated AH1315, or 1897AD.

Oman issued many different designs of these 1/4 anna coins in copper between AH133 and AH1315. The one in our picture is typical, but there are 19 other designs. Posting all the designs on CoinQuest is beyond our scope, but you can get a Standard Catalog of World Coins (1801 to 1900) at your library and look them up.

All designs carry roughly the same value, although some may be worth twice as much as others. The listing below presents the average value over all 20 designs.
