Coins with a lion and a sword usually means Iran. Coins with a lion and a flag usually means Ethiopia. The coins on this page are from Ethiopia and are made of copper. There is a similar silver coin, but this page applies only to the copper ones.
1 CENT: 17 mm diameter, plain edge
25 CENTS: 23 mm diameter, scalloped edge
Since these are modern coins, with the likeness of Haile Selassie, Ethiopia's regent from 1916 to 1930 and Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974, they carry low value. Collectors are most interested in fully uncirculated specimens, like the ones in our pictures.
Here are some typical catalog values. Use our Important Terminology page to convert them to actual buy and sell values. The 5 and 10 cent coins range between the 1 and 25 cent coins. There is also a 50 cent coin minted in silver, but that is not covered on this page.
