Neat coin!
These were minted in copper under the rule of John (Ioannes) V of Portugal, who had the nickname 'The Magnanimous'. He had a long and successful reign. He invested resources in opening mines in the New World, which brought home plenty of riches to the Portugal. After John, Joseph I, 'The Reformer,' ruled Portugal.
These coins are big, and hefty, and quite decorative - I like them! They come in three denominations:
3 (III) REIS: 25 mm diameter
5 (V) REIS: 27 mm
10 (X) REIS: 31 mm
For common dates, the values are low in worn condition. However, as the grade of the coin improves, values rise sharply, and some rarer dates can be quite valuable, as shown below.
