This is an osella (a coin or a medal) issued by Venezia (Venice) in commemoration of a bountiful harvest. The female figure is Abundance or Plenty and she is holding two cornucopias filled to the brim with goodies. Paolo Renier was ruler of Venice between 1779 and 1797.
We did quite a bit of research to figure out this coin. The coin shown on this page is in wonderful condition. It comes from Numismatica Varesi in Pavia, Italy, and CoinQuest thanks Varesi for use of their image. My guess is that Varesi's coin would sell retail for $800 to $900 US dollars. If you had a coin like this to sell, Varesi or another reputable coin dealer might pay $350 to $500 for it. The mark-up is necessary to keep the dealership solvent.
Since an osella is not strictly a coin, it does not appear in the standard coin catalogs. Our estimates are based on auction results for this piece, as follows:
worn: $400 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $900
well preserved: $1500
fully uncirculated: $2500
Remember that the concepts presented on our Terminology page apply.
