Here are two modern coins that contain real silver. That's cool. There are other, later, coins that look pretty much like these, but they are made of nickel and are worth face value. But 1 gulden and 2 1/2 gulden coins from the Netherland Antilles are worth their weight in silver:

GULDEN (1 G): 0.232 troy ounces silver
2 1/2 GULDEN (2 1/2 G): 0.579 troy ounces silver

To find the values of these coins, first look up the current price of silver on web sites such as kitco.com, then multiply by the silver content.

Suppose silver sells at $16.50 US dollars per troy ounce. Look it up. A 1 gulden coin is worth, then, 0.232 x 16.50 = $3.80 US dollars. You can add a few US dollars if your coin is fully uncirculated.

The 2 1/2 gulden coins from 1964 are worth a tad more than the rest. In average circulated condition they catalog at silver value + $5. When fully uncirculated, this increases to silver value + $20.
