From Wikipedia: Waitangi Day commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. It is a public holiday held each year on 6 February to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, on that date in 1840.
Two Waitangi Day dollars were struck in 1977: one in silver and one in copper-nickel. The silver coin is a proof coin (like our photo) and weighs 27.2 grams and contains 0.81 troy ounces of pure silver. The copper-nickel coin contains zero silver.
Copper nickel Waitangi Day dollars are worth face value. Silver Waitangi Day dollars are worth their weight in silver. The silver coins often come in a fancy box with an official-looking certificate. The box and certificate mean nothing. The only value comes from silver.
To find the value of your silver Waitangi dollar, multiply the current value of silver (found on web sites such as kitco.com) by 0.81.
