Iceland 1 Krona and 2, 5, and 10 Kronur 1946 to 1980

Even though Iceland has a really cool coat of arms, and even though these coins seem rare and exotic, there were millions and millions made and none of them carry much value. Too bad.

Some of these coins are made of nickel-brass, some are made of aluminum-bronze, and some are made of copper-nickel. The small 1 krona coins between 1976 and 1980 are made of pure aluminum.

The vast majority of these coins carry catalog values, regardless of date and denomination, like this:

worn: less than $1 US dollar catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $2
fully uncirculated: $4

There are two exceptions. Hope you have one:

1946 2 kronur catalogs at $5 in fully uncirculated condition
1966 2 kronur thick planchet catalogs at (are you ready?) $500 in well preserved condition

There are plenty of 1966 2 kronurs with thin planchets that are worth very small amounts. To determine if you have a thick or thin planchet, you need to get a precise weight for the coin. (Jewelers often have very accurate scales.) Here's the data:
