There was a short-lived republic in Spain between 1873 and 1874. The republic was sandwiched between two monarchies: King Amadeo before the republic, and King Alfonso after the republic. As one would expect, there were plenty of political shenanigans in Spain at that time, and Carlos VII (the pretender) managed to get his portrait on coins for a few short years around 1875. This is good for coin collectors, because these coins are rare today, and rarity drives prices up.
The coin in our picture comes from amazing eBay seller indalocolecciones in Spain. INDALO has an eBay feedback rating over 14000, which is a feat in itself. The Carlos VII coin is in great shape, and you hardly ever see them this nice. CoinQuest thanks INDALO for use of this coin image. It is a beauty!
