Austria (Netherlands and Milan) 1/4, 1/2, and 1 Kronenthaler 1788 to 1801

Franc, Francis, or Franz II was the last Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. He was preceded by Leopold II and, before him, Joseph II. To keep things interesting, Franz II set up the new Austrian Empire as an opponent to Napoleon and, in this capacity, called himself Franz I.

Large silver coins as shown in our picture with inscriptions D G R I S A GER HIE HVN BOH REX ARCH AVST DVX BVRG LOTH BRAB come from the Austrian Netherlands (mostly Belgium today), and the old Italian State of Milan, when Austria ruled it between 1714 and 1796.
