100 years worth of anything as big as Texas is enough to celebrate. The Texas centennial happened in 1936 and plenty of celebratory tokens were issued by private mints. The US mint issued a commemorative half dollar as well, but this page applies to the dozens of types of privately minted tokens.
There are plenty of different patterns to these tokens, but the ones shown here are the most popular. Typical values for such modern pieces made of non-precious metal start around $2 US dollars for worn specimens and rise to $50 of more for uncirculated tokens. Token collecting is becoming more and more popular as the Internet introduces more and more people to these fascinating collectibles.
The token in our main picture sold recently on eBay around the $20 mark, which is high for a circulated piece. I guess the exuberant cowgirl on the bucking broncho has strong collector appeal and pushes the price up. The other token, in the secondary picture, was issued by a shoe company and it sold for $30.
