Gorgeous coin. It is an old 5 franc shooting thaler from the city of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland. The full inscription reads Eidgenossisches schutzenfest in schaffhausen.
The specimen in our main picture is in great shape. It was sold for 160 euros, about $210 US dollars, by world-renowned auction house Fritz Rudolf Kunker GmbH & Co., Osnabruck (Lobke & Wiedemann, Stuttgart, image owners). We chose the Kunker image for educational purposes: it is especially beautiful and therefore quite valuable. Coins of lesser quality are worth much less.
