Tiny Gibraltar is a British Colony. Today they issue hundreds of different types of coins, mostly for collectors and not for circulation, because collectors are willing to pay high prices for coins from exotic locations.
Back in 1842, Gibraltar issued only three types of coins: the 1/2, 1, and 2 quart. These carry nice catalog values, as follows.
1/2 QUART
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $30
well preserved: $80
fully uncirculated: $200
1 QUART
worn: $20 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $140
fully uncirculated: $350
2 QUARTS
worn: $30 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $80
well preserved: $200
fully uncirculated: $550
The coin in our primary picture (with both front and back) comes from Noble Numismatics in Australia. It sold for $140 in 2012. You can see the importance of good condition for good price by comparing the two half quarts below.
A: average circulated, sold for $18 on eBay
B: almost fully uncirculated, sold for $140 by Noble Numismatics
