According to this Wikipedia page, The Chinese Soviet Republic (CSR), also known as the Soviet Republic of China or the China Soviet Republic, was established in November 1931 by future Communist Party of China leader Mao Zedong, General Zhu De and others, and it lasted until 1937. The coins that they issued are quite rare and sell to collectors for handsome sums.
The coin in our picture comes from Chaponnière et Firmenich SA in Genève and Lausanne. It sold for 6500 Swiss francs (about $6500 US dollars) in a 2012 auction. This gives a good idea of the value of these coins. Very approximately:
worn: $1000 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $2000
well preserved: $5000
There are several other styles and patterns. All are valuable if genuine. But watch out! As with all valuable coins, counterfeits abound. Some are easy to tell from genuine coins, but many are almost exact replicas. Our secondary picture shows an obvious fake.
