The city of Salzburg was part of the old German State of Bavaria for a short period in the early 1800s, but before and after it has been an important Austrian city. Way back in 700AD Salzburg was a bishopric: an area within the Holy Roman Empire where a religious bishop held the secular authority. Sigismund III (on the coin) ruled Salzburg between 1753 and 1771. The catalogs indicate the standing figure is Saint Rupert (also on the coin).
The coin in our picture comes from world-renowned coin dealer Kunker GmbH & Co. in Osnabruck, Germany where it sold in a 2013 auction for 320 euros, about $420 US dollars. The Kunker specimen is a beautiful piece (large photo below) and commands a high price. If the coin were in worse condition, with more wear and less eye appeal, the value would go down quickly.
Here are some typical catalog values for these coins:
worn: $90 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $160
well preserved: $280
fully uncirculated: $520
