Hello Netta -- There are lots of different coins with inscriptions that are very close to yours. ERNST AUGUST ruled the old German duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg from 1679 to 1698 and his name appears on many coins in many forms. The galloping horse was a favorite symbol of the region and the words SOLA BONA QUAE HONESTA (one that is good and honest) also appears on many coins. We believe that this is your coin. Hope so!
The sample in our picture is a nice specimen from Gerhard Hirsch Nachfolger in Munich, and CoinQuest thanks Gerhard for use of the coin image. It's a beauty!
You can easily tell the denomination of the coin from the 1/3 and 2/3 annotations under the horse. No annotation means you have a full thaler. On some coins the date appears in Roman numerals.
