This coin comes from Sicily and shows king Ferdinando III who ruled from 1799 to 1816. The design on the back shows two giant cornucopias with a single wheat stalk at the center. The complete inscriptions read FERD III PFA SICILIAR ET HIER REX, FELICI TAS PV BLICA. Dates are 1814 to 1815, but some coins were minted without a date, and these dateless specimens are worth about twice the values below.
Catalog values run like this:
worn: $50 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $150
well preserved: $250
fully uncirculated: $600
To qualify for these values, coins must be free of all problems such as spots, scratches, cleanings, nicks, gouges, and the like.
To show how catalog values can be deceiving, a fully uncirculated specimen, graded MS64 by NGC, sold in a 2010 Heritage auction for $4250. Wow.
