Nice coin! Look at the superb example in our picture. It's a 2 ducat from renowned dealer Kunker GmbH & Co. in Osnabruck, Germany, where it sold for 1000 euros, about $1300 US dollars, in a 2013 auction. Coins in beautiful condition always command high prices from coin collectors.
DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COIN. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.
These coins were issued as 'trade coinage' for use outside Holland. Ducats and 2 ducats were issued, both with the same pattern, but different sizes. It is unusual that the same coin with the same pattern, size, and weight be issued for centuries. But this is the case with Netherlands 1 and 2 ducats.
DUCAT: 22 mm diameter, 3.49 grams, 0.111 troy ounces gold
2 DUCAT: 27 mm, 6.98 grams, 0.221 ounces gold
There are also silver ducats. This page applies to gold coins only.
The inscriptions changed slightly through the centuries. CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCUNT translates to 'Through union little things grow.' MO ORD PROVIN FOEDER BELG AD LEG IMP and MO AUR REG BELGII AD LEGEM IMPERII get to the point that this is real, legal tender money.
The values below are approximate catalog values for all dates, except as noted. Not surprising, older coins in better shape command higher prices. There are also some special rare dates mixed in. If you have a a nice-looking example, be sure to take it to a knowledgeable collector or professional coin dealer for an in-person appraisal.
