Neat coin, Bob. And valuable too. These coins from the Danish West Indies (the US Virgin Islands today) show King Christian IX of Denmark on one side and a square rigged sailing ship on the other.
Usually you find these coins pretty well beat up. Most of them have scratches, stains, spots, cleanings, gouges, or nicks, and this slashes the value to almost nothing. But the one in our picture is different -- way different. It is in *gorgeous* condition with almost no wear and great eye appeal. This coin sold for $520 US dollars in a 2013 auction by prestigious auctioneer Stephen Album Rare Coins in Santa Rosa, California, USA. Just about all these coins are worth far less than Stephen's.
