These neat old medals, issued in both bronze and silver, celebrate the 50th anniversay of the Oldenburg (Germany) Agricultural Society. Heads of the Grand Dukes Nicholas and Peter Friedrich Ludwig Friedrich Peter show on the front, surrounded by an wreath. A female figure sits on the back, surrounded by attributes of agriculture.
The medal in our picture comes from Westfalische Auktionsgesellschaft in Arnsberg, Germany, where it sold for 500 euros (about $550 US dollars) in a 2006 auction. Westfalische's medal is in beautiful shape. It would be worth far less if worn, stained, cleaned, or damaged.
