France issued these 50 centimes coins with Napoleon between 1864 and 1869 (Paul, check the date on your coin). They are made of 0.0671 troy ounces of silver and carry decent collector value. They are difficult to find in high grade, that is, with little wear. Some typical catalog values are:
worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $12
well preserved: $25
fully uncirculated: $100
For reference, the coin in our picture is in average circulated condition.
There are a few better dates and mint marks, as follows:
1868A: $40 in well preserved condition
1868BB: $200 well preserved
1869BB: $150 well preserved
1864K: $75 well preserved
