Most of these big, silver coins you see today are worn down to very little, leaving them with only a small collectible value. Those you see with good eye-appeal are usually common dates. But once in a while you may get lucky and come across a better date with certain details, and these can be worth well over a thousand dollars!
Struck for only five years, these coins were often overstruck on similarly-sized Spanish Colonial 8 reales coins. On the side with the four-leaf clovers, there will sometimes be a faint coat-of-arms visible in the center. Coins that show remnants of the host coin command a premium from collectors. The more of the host coin that can be seen (mint mark, assayer's initials, date etc.) the higher the premium.
