Tunisia 5, 10, 20, and 25 Centimes 1918 to 1945

Tunisia, on the north coast of Africa, had only one real source of income: piracy of Mediterranean shipping. This continued until 1819 when the neighborhood of surrounding countries put their foot down. The Tunisian economy collapsed to the point that France moved in and established a protectorate there in 1881. Centime coinage with the hole at the center and PROTECTORATE FRANCAIS inscription started in 1918 and continued through 1945.

The 5 centimes in our picture is quite special because it is fully uncirculated. Most of these coins that you find today are circulated.
