Harry sent us this picture of his spiffy bronze award medallion from the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (RNVR). The design contains an RNVR insignia, an open space for engraving award information, and the fouled anchor design prevalent for many Navies worldwide. The secondary picture on this page shows an RNVR button with the same design.
From the picture, the vintage of Harry's medal looks to be of the World War II era. Such bronze medals typically sell retail in the neighborhood of $20 to $50 US dollars. Harry's medal is in decent numismatic (coin collector) condition, with no problems such as scratches, stains, cleanings, nicks, gouges, or similar disfigurements. This increases value.
DO NOT CLEAN YOUR MEDAL. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.
The unusual thing about this specific medal is that we have not been able to find it in our (somewhat extensive) reference material. We do not have every possible reference book at CoinQuest, but usually, when you know the origin of a piece, it is not difficult to find information in (professional) online databases. Book and online searches for Harry's medal have come up dry. This may indicate that this medal is rare and would therefore command higher prices than normal.
Evaluating catalog prices for coins and medals involves collecting data on auction prices realized. With no such prices available for this medal, we can only guess at value. Our guesses are:
worn: $20 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $50
well preserved: $100
fully uncirculated: $200
