The catalogs are not too kind to these coins. A look at actual successful sales show that these aluminum-bronze 5 piastres can carry decent value when they have an appealing look.

They feature a cedar tree with a tiny bird on either side on the front, or 'obverse', and a galley with many rowers on the back, or 'reverse'. Approximate adjusted catalog values can be found in the table below:

coins dated 1940 are common, divide the above values by 2

To sell for the values above, a coin must be free of all problems such as corrosion, stains, discoloration, or any other issues that will make the coin look less appealing to a collector.
