Turkey 1, 5, 10, 20, and 40 Para 1839 to 1861

As best we can tell, Ian, you have a 40 para from Turkey. Other coins that show in the catalogs under Egypt do not carry regnal year 17. These coins come from sultan Abdul Mejid who ruled from 1255 to 1277AH (Muslim calendar) which is 1839 to 1861AD (Gregorian calendar).

The two coins in our pictures are both 40 para. The one in the main picture comes from Heritage Auctions and is almost fully uncirculated. It sold for $150 US dollars in a 2008 auction. The price would be more today. The second coin with annotations shows more wear and is a $50 coin. It comes from Westfalische Auktionsgesellschaft in Germany.
