Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne was Duke of Bouillon in the late 16th and early 17th century France. He married the heiress to the Duchy of Bouillon in 1591, and became Marshal of France in 1592. With the power to issue his own coins, he struck a beautiful series of coppers and silvers. This page deals with the copper issues known as double tournois and liards. The 1 liard coins have a different design with fleur-de-lis on the reverse instead of a coat-of-arms, while the 2 (double) tournois and 2 liard coins only differ in size and inscription.

Roy reports an interesting legend error on his coin. If there is truly an error in the inscription , and it is not simply a combination of a die cud, wear and the serifs that are causing the E to resemble an A, then this makes the coin extra interesting.
Damaged coins will be worth a few dollars at most. Damaged and worn coins will be worth zero. Check out our Important Terminology page found at the top left in order to properly interpret these catalog values.
