'Für Wissenschaft und Kunst' means 'of Science and Art.' This is a merit medal from Nicolaus Friedrich Peter, Grand Duke of Oldenburg, 1853-1900. I have found them in silver and gold, but there may be bronze medals as well. A bronze version would be worth somewhat less than the silver one shown here. This one comes from Künker GmbH & Co. in Osnabrück, Germany, where it sold in a 2010 auction for 1900 euros, about $2350 US dollars. Nice! The gold version would add at least the value of its gold content to this already handsome figure.
With such a valuable piece, Kare, you must take precautions to preserve its integrity. This always means storing it in a non-corrosive holder and keeping it out of humid air. This sometimes means having it professionally authenticated, graded, and sealed in a plastic slab (see PCGS, NGC, ICG, or ANACS on the Internet).
You can take it to a local coin shop and ask about storage options. Inquire with Künker or another top-of-the-line auction house if you want to sell it. Write if you have further questions.
