The French East India company struck coinage at the mint in Pondicherry in India during the early 1700s. These dateless coins bear the crown and fleur design and come in various sizes and compositions:
1/2 FANON: copper, 5 fleur-de-lis, about 8 mm diameter
1/2 FANON: copper, 10 fleur-de-lis, about 21 mm diameter
FANON: copper, 9 fleur-de-lis, about 28 mm diameter
FANON: silver, 5 fleur-de-lis, about 12 mm diameter
2 FANON: silver, 5 fleur-de-lis, about 18 mm diameter
They are all old, interesting, and valuable. The one in our picture comes from Baldwin's in London where is sold for 840 GBP (about $1400 US dollars) in a 2013 auction. Most coins, however, will not reach such levels. As always, CoinQuest is grateful to Baldwin's for use of their coin image.
