This portrait of Miss Liberty in a liberty cap appears only on coins from 1895 and 1896. Other 5 and 10 pesos of the era bear different portraits. Gold content is:
5 (CINCO) PESOS: 0.0883 troy ounces gold
10 (DIEZ) PESOS: 0.1766 troy ounces gold
These coins can never be worth less than their weight in gold. To find the base value (BV) multiply the gold content by the current price of gold. Look it up, as it changes every day. At this writing, gold is trading at $1330 US dollars per troy ounce, so BV for a 10 pesos is 0.1766 x 1330 = $235.
To find approximate values, add a collector premium for coins in good condition:
5 and 10 PESO COINS DATED 1895:
worn: BV
average circulated: BV + $10
well preserved: BV + $40
fully uncirculated: BV + $80
There were a few 5 pesos coins made in 1896. If you have one of these, multiply the collector premium by three.
