Now that's a cute little coin if I ever saw one. The engraving of the eagle is naively done, it looks almost like a a smiling caricature of the proud imperial eagle commonly found on coins of the German states.
These are tiny copper pieces at just 18 millimeters, and the flans are very thin. They were not worth much when they circulated, and not treated with care. The design didn't last very well, and coins in better condition are quite collectible. The coin in our image is somewhere between 'average circulated' and 'well preserved' in grade.
worn: $6 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $25
well preserved: $50
fully uncirculated: $100
coins dated 1836 and 1837 are scarce - multiply the above values by 3
Damaged coins (that is, coins that are bent, have been holed, coins with corrosion, or other problems) are worth a couple of dollars.
