Australia 10 Cents with Lyrebird 1966 to 2011

Australia has a lot of cool coins. This one has the uber-cool lyrebird. The Lyrebird is either of two species of ground-dwelling Australian birds, that are most notable for their superb ability to mimic natural and artificial sounds from their environment. Lyrebirds have unique plumes with two large prominent banded feathers and many delicate intermediate neutral colored tail feathers. Check out this Bird Nut page for more information.

It would be fun to assemble a set of modern Australian low-denomination coins. Each coin boasts interesting Australian animals. It would not be expensive to assemble such a set, because all coins are available directly from circulation at low cost.

The values above are for all coins except a few special ones. The dates 1995, 1996. and 1997 are special in that they were issued only in sets. Values climb over $10 for these coins in uncirculated condition. There are also a few years where coins were minted in silver (also in sets) as proofs for collectors. These coins date 2003 to 2011 and carry a B mint mark. They are worth $15 or so.
