US Bridge Cedar Ridge (Fakes are possible) 1866 and 1867

Token US Bridge Cedar Ridge (Fakes are possible) 1866 and 1867

These are valuable tokens from the US Civil War era. They were minted for commerce over the new iron bridge in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A flood had wiped out the wooden bridge in 1866.

Very few original tokens remain, and those in good condition are worth a bundle to token collectors. Nominal values are:

worn: $50 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $100
well preserved: $250

The token in our primary picture comes from Heritage Auctions where is sold for $39 in a 2007 auction. Even in basically unreadable condition, that's a high price for an old token like this. As always, CoinQuest is indebted to Heritage for releasing copyright permission to us.

As with most valuable numismatic (coin collecting) pieces, counterfeits abound. The secondary picture shows a fake Cedar Ridge token, with 'Cedar' missspelled. It is worth zero. Don't be fooled by counterfeiters. Deal only with people you know and trust.
