India 1 Paisa 1965 to 1981

India 1 Paisa 1965 to 1981

These small, light coins minted in aluminum are worth very little in India. One paisa is currently equal to 0.02 US cent, or $0.0002. So yeah, not a whole lot! The lion is one of the statues found atop of the Pillars of Ashoka, a series of ancient monuments erected across India by the king Ashoka who reigned in the third century BC.

The coins are traded amongst collectors for one to three. Nice looking coins are worth about one dollar, while absolutely breathtaking specimens can reach three dollars.

There are a couple of exceptions. The coins dated 1970 are only found in uncirculated mint sets, or as proof issues. They catalog around $8 US dollars.

Additionally, coins dated 1969 are sometimes slightly more valuable. Coins from the Hyderabad mint (with a small 5-pointed star under the date) dated 1969 catalog at $6 when average circulated and at $10 when fully uncirculated.

Coins dated 1969 with a B (from the Mumbai mint) are also slightly scarce, worth the same as the Hyderabad issue above.

Any coin that's very worn or damaged will be worth zero. All values on this page are catalog values. Please read our Important Terminology page found at the top left in order to properly interpret these values.
