Austria's Maria Theresia ruled Hungary between 1740 and 1780. During that time frame the Austro-Hungarian empire minted oodles of silver coins with oodles of neat patterns. Some 20 krajczar (kreuzer) coins have the queen inside a wreath, others have no wreath. Some coins have the denomination in a pedestal, others in a circle. Madonna (Mary and baby Jesus) appear on some coins, a double-headed eagle on other coins. There are also 3, 7, 10, 15, and 17 krajczar denominations. This page applies only to 20 krajczar coins like our picture, with:
- Maria Theresia inside a wreath
- Madonna on the reverse
- 20 inside a circle (not a pedestal)
Under that prescription, catalog values run like this:
worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $13
well preserved: $25
fully uncirculated: $250
Almost all dates and mint marks carry roughly these values. There is a couple of slightly better dates, as noted below. For all other dates, see the values above. The following values are for coins in well preserved condition:
1766 IB-FL, 1767 IB-FL: $40
1771 IB-FL or IB-IV with NB-NB on reverse: $55
1779 B-V: $35
Be sure to understand how catalog values like these work. For a thorough explanation, go to our Important Terminology page.
