Spain 50 Centimos and 1, 2, and 5 Pesetas (Alfonso XII and XIII) 1876 to 1902

Spain 50 Centimos and 1, 2, and 5 Pesetas (Alfonso XII and XIII) 1876 to 1902

These silver coins from Spain have king Alfonso on the front and a 'crowned pillars and shield' design on the back. Some of the can be quite valuable, especially in well preserved condition. There are several coins that look similar, even some from Spanish colonies, but this page applies only to coins with:

ALFONSO XII or ALFONSO XIII
POR LA G (GRACIA) DE DIOS (by the grace of God)
REY CONSTL DE ESPANA (king of the constitutional state of Spain)

Alfonso XIII reigned even as an infant, and coins with his childhood likeness are very obvious. One is called the 'toddler head' then the 'baby head' and finally the 'child head.' See our additional images.
