Great Britain Crown and Half Crown 1831 to 1837

I really like toned coins. When I saw this toned beauty in the CoinArchives database, it was first choice for this page about British crowns and half crowns of 1831 to 1837.

The coin in our picture comes from Heritage Auctions. It is in Proof-64 condition, as established by the Numismatic Guarantee Company (NGC). The coin is exceptionally choice, with deep mirrors, portrait and shield both frosted and a few scattered ticks in the metal on obverse. The reverse is sensational in both quality and color. The coin is toned in vivid shades of amber-gold and bluish green iridescence. Wow. With such credentials, this coin sold well above catalog value at $3500 in a 2014 auction. 'Normal' coins usually sell below catalog value, as outlined below.
