Portugal 50 and 100 Reis 1900
Hi Elizabeth -- these old coins from Portugal are made of copper-nickel, and they can be worth a nice chunk of change when fully uncirculated. Since yours is worn, figure it to be a nice conversation piece, but little else. See if you can find a 50 reis from 1875 or 1887. These catalog at $100 if they are in well preserved condition.
The 1900 coins, however, are of little value when worn. The catalogs report the following values for both the 50 and 100 reis:
worn: less than $1 US dollar
average circulated: $2
well preserved: $10
fully uncirculated: $25
100 reis that are fully uncirculated: $35
