Serbia 1 and 2 Dinars 1904 to 1915

Serbia 1 and 2 Dinars 1904 to 1915

You are almost, but not quite correct about your coin being from Yugoslavia, Vesna. Had it been struck just a few years later, after Yugoslavia was founded, it would have been true. However, in 1915, before the end of World War I and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Serbia had not yet merged with surrounding territories, and was still striking its own coins. They did so under the rule of Peter I, whose name is written in Cyrillic as 'Петар I' on the coins.

The 1 and 2 dinars look the same, except for the size and, of course, the denomination. These coins were struck in three different years: 1904, 1912 and 1915. Some of the 1 dinars from 1915 are *special* - read more about this after these general values:

1 DINAR:
worn: $5 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $7
well preserved: $15
fully uncirculated: $32
1 dinars dated 1904 are less common - multiply the above values by 2

2 DINARA:
worn: $8
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $30
fully uncirculated: $100
2 dinara dated 1915 are more common and catalog at $45 when fully uncirculated

Now, there is one aspect of these coins that is sure to get collector juices flowing! On most 1 dinar coins, the designer's name is found below the base of the bust, right at the start of the neck. But on some 1 dinars, this signature is missing.

1 DINARS WITHOUT DESIGNER'S SIGNATURE:
worn: $10
average circulated: $15
well preserved: $35
fully uncirculated: $100

The values on this page only apply to coins which are not damaged. That means coins which do not have scratches, gouges, stains, holes, or other major problems. Please see our Important Terminology page at the top left in order to properly interpret the catalog values used on this page.
