Japan 1 Sen (with Crow) 1938 to 1940
Very nice design on this coin. Many Japanese coins show a phoenix, the magical bird. But this one shows a plain old crow. Nothing magical about that!
Issued as World War II started to rage in Europe, these coins were struck in bronze dated 1938 ('Year 13'), and in a smaller aluminum version from 1938 to 1940 ('Year 13' to 'Year 15'.) Values are similar, as noted below:

1 sen struck in aluminum dated 'Year 13' (1938) are less common in higher grades - they catalog at $10 when fully uncirculated
1 sen dated 'Year 14' (1939) come in two varieties. The left inner stroke in the character '?' can be either symmetrical to the right stroke (common coins) or tilted and asymmetrical (better coins). These *better coins* catalog at $1 when average circulated, but $20 when fully uncirculated.
