I guess people in Belgium don't use many words. This coin comes with two different legends identifying Belgium as the country of origin: BELGIE (Dutch) and BELGIQUE (French). The stylized 'U' (looks like a 'V') and a 'G' that looks like a 'C' on the French version confuses many. Including me.
These are modern coins made of nickel bronze. They are all low in value, except one:
ALL DATES WITH COIN ALIGNMENT:
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated: $5
Some coins have 'medal alignment' instead of 'coin alignment.' A 1980 coin with medal alignment is worth more:
1980 WITH MEDAL ALIGNMENT:
worn: $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $3
well preserved: $10
fully uncirculated: $25
To determine if your coin has medal alignment, hold it between your thumb and forefinger with the head right-side up. Your thumb is on the bottom, near the neck, and your forefinger is on the top, near the scalp. Now turn the coin from left to right, like you are reading a book. If the 20 and leaves are right-side up, you have medal alignment. If they are up-side down, you have coin alignment.
