US Rugged American Series - Sitting Bull 1970

Token US Rugged American Series - Sitting Bull 1970

This bronze token was minted by the Franklin Mint for the Husky Oil Company in 1970. These tokens were offered upon a fill-up petrol purchase made at Husky gas stations. The station would provide a cardboard game board with cut-outs so the tokens in the set could be popped into the corresponding slots.

This token shows Sitting Bull, Indian chief. Before the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Sitting Bull had a vision in which he saw the defeat of the 7th Cavalry under Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer on June 25, 1876. Sitting Bull's leadership inspired his people to a major victory. Months later he left the United States for Wood Mountain, North-West Territories (now Saskatchewan, Canada), where he remained until 1881. In Native American culture the buffalo symbolizes sacredness & life-building. It was also a primary source of food for the plains indians.

This token is made of non precious metal and carries low value. Checking auction results, a few collectors still seek these tokens and buy them for their collections.
