Italy 200 Lire (100th Anniversary Commemoratives) 1990 to 1996

Eugenio Driutti, an Italian medalist, designed the reverse of this Italian 200 lire coin dated 1990, commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the State Council. He also designed both sides of another commemorative 200 lire coin in 1996, celebrating the 100th year of the Italian custom services academy.

This page applies to Italian 200 lire coins minted in 1990 and 1996. Other years have other patterns and compositions, and these are not covered here.

According to the catalogs, these coins made of bronzital, an alloy of copper, aluminum, and nickel, are only worth $2 US dollars when fully uncirculated. However, when they look as nice as in our pictures, collectors will pay up to $6 for them, corresponding to an actual catalog value of about $10 or so for fully uncirculated coins. For a coin that has been exposed to circulation, the $2 value is probably accurate.
