The Gregorian (western) year 1945 is Islamic year 1364, and the Gregorian year 1951 is Islamic year 1370. In both these years Morocco issued 1 and 2 franc coins with a 5-pointed star on one side and the denomination on the other side. A one-half franc (50 centimes) coin was also issued with the same pattern. Empire Cherifien is an old term used for the French Protectorate of Morocco. Morocco became independent of prior French and Spanish influence in 1956.
