Canada 5 cents 1912 to 1919

The two crossed maple boughs appeared on all 5-cent coins from 1858 to 1921. These coins, with King George V were minted between 1912 and 1919. They were nicknamed 'fish scales' for their tiny size.

Each coin contains 0.0336 troy ounces of silver. You have to get into uncirculated condition before high values kick in. Here are some typical values:

5 CENTS DATED 1912, 1913, 1914, 1917, 1918, 1919:
worn: $2 US dollars catalog value
average circulated: $4
well preserved: $8
fully uncirculated: $40

Coins dated 1915 are more rare; multiply the values above by 8, and coins dated 1916 are somewhat rare; multiply the values above by 3.

Please realize that we have quoted catalog values, and actual values will be less. Use our Important Terminology page to understand how much less.
