The Lion Capital of Ashoka is a sculpture of four Indian lions standing back to back, on an elaborate base that includes other animals. A graphic representation of it was adopted as the official emblem of India in 1950, and it has appeared on most Indian coins since then.
The 25 and 50 paise coins covered here show the Ashoka lions on the front and the large numeric denomination on the back, with one-half wreath at the bottom, under the denomination. There are small variations in pattern, but the basics are the same between 1960 and 1983.
Since these are modern coins made of non-precious metal, their values are low. Typical catalog values run like this for all dates:
25 PAISE
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated: $2
50 PAISE
worn: less than $1 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: less than $1
well preserved: $1
fully uncirculated: $3
