Ancient Rome Nero Alexandria Tetradrachm with Eagle 64AD

Ancient Rome Nero Alexandria Tetradrachm with Eagle 64AD

Billon is low-grade silver, and these tetradrachm of Nero are usually seen in billon or, perhaps, high grade billon (if there is such a thing!) They are from the Roman provincial capital Alexandria in Egypt. Typical catalog values depend strongly on porosity, strike and overall eye appeal.

worn: $75 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated: $150
well preserved: $300

The coin in our picture qualifies for the 'average circulated' rating. I have seen nicer looking specimens sell near the $300 mark. To reach high levels, the eye appeal must be very strong and the strike complete, so you can clearly see the aegis.
