Bohemia and Moravia were, and are now, parts of Czechoslovakian lands. But in the last 1930s and into the 1940s the German Nazi regime occupied and eventually invaded them. These coins come from the time of the German occupation.
With most resources going to the German war effort, there was not a lot of quality metal to make coins. So these coins are minted in zinc, and zinc coins deteriorate quickly. (Note: US one cent coins today are made of zinc.)
There were four denominations minted: 10, 20, and 50 haleru, and 1 koruna. This page applies only to the 50 haleru coins, as shown in our photo.
