Be careful when evaluating Venezuelan coins. Most of the patterns look very similar, but there are tiny differences. The same goes for the inscriptions. This page applies only to coins that look like the picture, are dated 1944 to 1946, and have GRAM inscriptions (not BOLIVAR or GR inscriptions):
1/2 BOLIVARE, 2.5 GRAM: 0.067 troy ounces silver
1 BOLIVARE, 5 GRAM: 0.134 ounces silver
2 BOLIVARES: 10 GRAM: 0.268 ounces silver
These coins can never be worth less than their silver content, called base value (BV). Look up the price of silver and multiply by the silver content to find BV. For instance, if you have a 2 bolivar and the price of silver is $15 US dollars per troy ounce (see kitco.com), the BV is 0.268 x 15 = $4 US dollars. Approximate catalog values run like this:
1/2 BOLIVARE
worn: BV
average circulated: BV
well preserved: BV + $2 US dollars approximate catalog value
fully uncirculated: BV + $5
1/2 bolivares dated 1944 are more rare, cataloging near BV + $8 in well preserved condition
1 BOLIVARE
worn: BV
average circulated: BV
well preserved: BV + $1 US dollars approximate catalog value
fully uncirculated: BV + $3
2 BOLIVARES
worn: BV
average circulated: BV
well preserved: BV + $1 US dollars approximate catalog value
fully uncirculated: BV + $5
